Mandy (of Island Dogs Bar) takes a ride on the 48 volt, 500 watt Pedego Interceptor after enjoying lunch at Lobos in Key Lime Square.
As frequently happens, she hoped off grinning from ear to ear. Mandy appreciated the light weight of the Pedego (only 56 lbs.) and how easy and fun they are to ride.

These are forecast to cost about $6000 and will be available in about 2 years. Refueling stations (lack of) are a major draw back.  The reviewer gives the bike high marks for ease of use and a smooth ride.

Just came across this bike in the NY Times.  The Yike Bike...yikes is right!  These babies cost around $3500 and weigh only 22 lbs.  The Yike Bike will carry you about 6 miles on 1 charge, costing roughly .06 per charge!  Invented in New Zealand.

Key West Bike Tours

The most popular local Key West bike tour is provided by Lloyd of Lloyd's Tropical Bike Tour.  Lloyd has been offering his popular bike tours for over 20 years and they are one of the best ways to experience Key West.

Here is a link to the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage State Trail.  The trail, although incomplete, runs from Key Largo to Key West.  The completion for the entire trail is scheduled for 2015 and will permit riders to ride the distance of the Keys on a trail suitable for bikes, which will run parallel to the Overseas Highway (U.S. Rt. 1).

Pedego Assembly

First let me say that Pedego bikes arrive 99% assembled out of the box.  You will need to add the handle bars, pedals, and battery.  The whole process takes about 5 minutes.  Here is a short video describing the "Out of Box" experience...
